Principal’s Corner

 Welcome!

You've arrived at the 'Principal's page' of the St. Paul Lutheran School website...  Whether you are visiting our website for the first time, whether you are a new parent or student to our school, or whether you are an 'old friend' to St. Paul, WELCOME!  Our website pages are updated often and are intended to give our visitors information about this special place of Christian education since 1840:  St. Paul Lutheran School.  Make sure you regularly check the 'What's Happening' page for the ongoing events' article and the accompanying pictures!

Every summer the faculty selects a theme for the upcoming school year.  This year our theme is 'Let's Get Connected'.  This theme reminds us of the love that was shown to us through our Lord, Jesus Christ, when He came down from heaven to get us "connected" to God . . . because we couldn't do it by ourselves!  We are to follow His command to love others as much as we love ourselves and thus get connected with others in this world.  We truly pray that others find that kind of love here at St. Paul Lutheran School.

Joining us again in our educational efforts for the fourth straight year is CATAPULT LEARNING, our Title I government funding provider for students who need extra assistance in reading and/or math as noted by a performance of below 50% on a standardized achievement test.  Our Title I staff again includes our full time teacher, Ms. Donni Hutcherson, her full time aide, Ms. Elesha Spiller, a one-day-a-week social worker, Alethea Johnson, and our one-day-a-week counselor, Dorothy Miller.

This year we are again giving our families the opportunity to apply for special tuition assistance grants.  For more information, or to apply for a grant, please click on the 'tuition and aid assistance' button on our home page!  If you, or someone that you know, including businesses, are in a financial situation that would allow you to make a special donation to help a deserving family, please call me, and let's talk!  We also participate in the state of Louisiana's Student Scholarships for Academic Excellence.  Call the school office for more details.

St. Paul Lutheran School is now accepting applications for the 2012-2013 school year.  Our pre-kindergarten program, which we call Early School, is often "closed" within a very short window of time due to our class size limits.  Don't delay!  We are pleased to announce that we can offer special registration discounts to current school families who successfully refer new students to us.  The registration discount is also extended to the 'referred' family!  Please call the school office for details.

IF you are a current parent or an alumnus of St. Paul and you would like to share why St. Paul Lutheran School is a special place for Christian education in New Orleans, please e-mail your testimonial to the school's e-mail address at sptigers@bellsouth.net . . . THANK YOU!

For those junior high parents who are interested in education in the 'arts', St. Paul would like to recommend that they contact the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA).  This innovative arts school's unique campus is located at 2800 Chartres St. in the Faubourg Marigny, very close to St. Paul.  They offer training in music, dance, theatre, visual arts, creative writing, media arts, musical theatre and theatre technology.  Their phone number is (800) 201-4836 and their web-site is www.nocca.com!

Please let interested family members, co-workers, neighbors, etc., know that their children can take advantage of St. Paul's strong foundation of educational excellence.  And, remember, as noted above, should family circumstances warrant, we DO have scholarship funding available due to the generosity of members of St. Paul Lutheran Church as well as other schools and organizations throughout the country who have responded generously to our needs 'Post-Katrina'.  Our best advertising is 'word of mouth', so if you know about St. Paul - spread the word and grab those special discounts!  If you don't know about St. Paul, I would be happy to give you a tour and explain why St. Paul Lutheran is a unique place for education.  Call me at (504) 947-1773 today!

Blessings,

Chuck Schiller
